May 6, 2015 the KarRC RAS Institute of Economics held a seminar on "Prospects for the development of tourism in the Republic of Karelia." The event was held as part of the State contract for the preparation of applications for inclusion in the federal program "Development of domestic tourism in the Russian Federation (2011 - 2018 years)" project of tourist-recreational cluster in the Republic of Karelia. The first seminar within the project took place April 23, 2015.The workshop included a reflective session in which representatives of public authorities, tourism companies, NGOs, experts and students of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism at Petrozavodsk State University formulated directions and instruments of development the tourism in the region. The deputy chairman of the Tourism State Committee of the Republic of Karelia V. Gromov took part as expert on the seminar. The moderators of reflective session were personnel of Fund "New Dimension" E. Lunina and A. Sukhorukov. Summing up the seminar, Deputy Director for Science E. Zhirnel stressed the importance of such events, in which representatives of various professional fields jointly develop proposals and new projects for tourism development in Karelia. The results of the discussion will be included in a final report that will be presented soon to the Tourism State Committee of the Republic of Karelia.
