Academic Council
The Academic Council of the KarRC RAS Institute of Economics was instated by the decision of the Social Sciences Department Bureau of the Russian Academy of Sciences on April 16, 2013, with 14 members, including six doctoral and eight post-doctoral scientists. By virtue of position the Director of the KarRC RAS Institute of Economics acts as the Chairman of the Academic Council and the Scientific Secretary of the Institute acts as the Secretary of the Academic Council.

The tasks of the Academic Council of the KarRC RAS Institute of Economics are to:

  • Set the main research themes for the Institute;
  • Recommend for approval plans and programs of research, training, international scientific cooperation, meetings and conferences, as well as other plans;
  • Examine the use of logistical and financial resources for the planned activities;
  • Instate the structure of the Institute;
  • Discuss and approve the reports of the director and heads of departments on the results of scientific research;
  • Discuss and approve the key results of the Institute’s activities to be submitted for inclusion in the annual report of the Russian Academy of Sciences;
  • Discuss topical problems of science, scientific papers and reports;
  • Nominate scientific papers, inventions and other achievements for medals and awards; nominate staff of the Institute for scientific degrees and titles;
  • Nominate full members and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences;
  • Nominate candidates for the post of President of the Karelian Research Centre and Director of the Institute;
  • Elect candidates for vacant positions of research associates;
  • Elect heads of departments of the Institute, taking into account the opinions of the respective scientific teams;
  • Elect the institute’s representatives for the RAS General Assembly;
  • Evaluate the results of the research carried out by the Institute as a whole and its scientific departments;
  • Define the principles for provisions for scientific research and administrative activities of the Institute;
  • Consider other issues related to the Charter of the Institute and the Charter of the Karelian Research Centre of RAS.
