May 29, 2015 Institute of Economics of Karelian Research Centre of the RAS staff participated in the Third Forum of active citizens and non-profit organizations "Community." Vice-Director for Science Evgeny Zhirnel’ moderated on session "The development of small areas." Experts Lev Gordon, Eugene Goman and Dmitry Sazonov and representatives of small settlements took part in the discussion on problems and perspectives of socio-economic development of small territories in current situation.
Forums "Community" are held by the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation from March to October in nine federal districts of the country. Their main goal - to reveal the state of development of the nonprofit sector in the regions to discuss existing problems and possible solutions, as well as to support the best practices of civil engagement.
Civil society activists and representatives of NGOs from the North-West region, representatives of executive authorities, social business, deputies and members of the Civic Chamber became participants of the Forum. Aleksandr Brechalov (Secretary of the Civic Chamber of Russia, the first vice-president of the All-Russian public organization of small and medium entrepreneurship "Opora Rossia") started the forum.

Open discussions, round tables, informal meetings and lectures, discussions of best practices of civil engagement were held within the forum.
