The influence of social and economic development factors on the level of educational potential of age-differentiated younger generation groups of the population in the region is investigated. Based on a comparative analysis of census data, conclusions are made about the changes in the accumulated educational potential between 2002 and 2010. The peculiarities and reasons for the qualitative change in the number of younger generation representatives with reference to the level of education during the period between the censuses in Russia are examined. An increase in the proportion of the younger generation (aged 25-34) with higher professional education is revealed. As a result, the interrelation is determined between the development factors of migration and investment processes in the regional economy and the change in the share of pro- fessionals’ employment depending on their level of education. By using the method of economic mathematical modeling, we have determined that the faster the growth in the number of specialists with the highest level of professional education engaged in the regional economy, the higher the labor productivity in the region.
