The relevance of this topic is due to the growth of such phenomenon as "social responsibility of business". The article presents a historical analysis of the concept of development. Practices of business social responsibility are considered. The institutional environment of the northern regions of Russia and Eastern Finland is presented. The conclusions about the current situation are made.
